Helen Meyerer Chambers died peacefully at Ollie Steele Burden surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday March 25, 2015. She was 84, born and raised in Baton Rouge. She retired from Allied Chemical after 35 plus years of dedicated service. Helen was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and earned a BS in Business Administration from LSU in 1951. Helen Meyerer Chambers died peacefully at Ollie Steele Burden surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday March 25, 2015. She was 84, born and raised in Baton Rouge. She retired from Allied Chemical after 35 plus years of dedicated service. Helen was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and earned a BS in Business Administration from LSU in 1951. She served as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick, as well as, a regular attendee in the Adoration Chapel at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Helen was an active member of Woman's Club Inc. and SJA Alumnae where she held an officer position for a couple of years until her dementia kept her from attending. She enjoyed playing the piano, working crossword puzzles, writing poetry and baking. She made the best fudge, lace cookies, caramel cake (which was dad's favorite), and the family favorite was her rum cake! Her most treasured moments were those spent playing with her grandchildren. She loved her family and friends dearly and actively lived her faith with a selfless spirit. She is survived by; three daughters Cathy Chambers Efferson and husband Randy of BR, Kristen Chambers Faller and husband Jack of Denham Springs, Karen Chambers Ruth and husband Larry of Baton Rouge and son, Mark Lance Chambers of Baton Rouge. She was a sweet and loving "Maw Maw" to nine grandchildren, Scott Efferson, Brian Efferson and wife Courtney, Mallory and Mason Chambers, Brittany and Lauren Faller, Christopher, Brandon and Caroline Ruth. One great-granddaughter, Lucy Catherine Efferson and two nieces who were very special to Helen, Lori Meyerer Brown and Lisa Meyerer also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Michael V. Chambers Jr., her parents, Albert and Addie Meyerer, and brother William Albert Meyerer. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Avenue, on Monday, March 30, at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am by Rev. Donald Blanchard. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Scott Efferson, Brian Efferson, Randy Efferson, Christopher Ruth, Brandon Ruth, Larry Ruth, Mason Chambers and Jack Faller. The family wishes to express their appreciation and heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor and also to Hospice of Baton Rouge. The family extends a special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge nurse, Nita Vincent, who prayed with the family and showed such compassion not only to mom, but also to the entire family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, Charlie's Place Respite Center or Hospice of Baton Rouge.
