Horace Wayne Elkins, loving husband, father, and Grandad, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the age of 68. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and Central, Louisiana, Horace was born on December 11, 1948 to Franklin Luther Elkins and Kathryn Gurney Elkins. He was the second in a family of three children. After graduating from Central High School, Horace attended Northeast Louisiana University and completed a degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Horace Wayne Elkins, loving husband, father, and Grandad, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the age of 68. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge and Central, Louisiana, Horace was born on December 11, 1948 to Franklin Luther Elkins and Kathryn Gurney Elkins. He was the second in a family of three children. After graduating from Central High School, Horace attended Northeast Louisiana University and completed a degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Working primarily in financial positions, he retired from the Baton Rouge City Parish after 27 years of service. An avid hobbyist, Horace enjoyed the outdoors and was especially fond of golf, jogging, and cycling. In recent years, he enjoyed raising backyard chickens and beekeeping. In 1981, he married Karen Morvant Elkins and together they raised two daughters, Lauren and Susan. Horace was thrilled to become a grandfather and derived great joy from spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Karen Morvant Elkins, two daughters, Lauren Elkins Harris and husband Ryan of Houston, TX and Susan Elkins Tucker and husband Michael of Navarre, FL, two grandchildren, Clayton Percy Tucker and William Dudley Harris, brothers Vance Franklin Elkins of Biloxi, and Neal Luther Elkins and Erin Rogers of Central, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Franklin and Kathryn Elkins. Horace was a longtime active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church of Baton Rouge. Visitation with the family begins at the church at 10:30 a.m. on August 8, 2017 followed by a memorial service celebrating his life at 11:30 a.m. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Flannery Oaks Guest House and Life Source Hospice.
